There are an estimated 100 billion neurons and 100 trillion synapses in the human brain.
Mapping the microscopic worm C. elegans, which contains a mere 302 neurons took a decade.
So it's safe to say, without an incredible discovery or invention we will never know in our lifetimes exactly the way that our minds work.
It leads me to think, what it would be like when we do know.
Will the magic be lost?
I wonder when the point of consciousness arose in evolution, and to this point, how do we define 'conscience'?
Meaning is an object specific to our consciousness.
We have evolved in to creatures that exist striving to find some reason for living, when it’s clear at least to me that the brain and its consciousness alone is reason enough.
If we exist simply on the scientific plane there’s no reason to search for meaning, it should be enough to know that evolution will twist and transform us into something which we can’t even begin to understand yet.
I believe that we are the only creature on this planet that is searching for meaning, it is an object that has no relevance, there is no such thing as ‘meaning’ it is a word which we place on things that we want to give more importance. Meaning is a specifically human construct, reason is not.
I wonder why it is that it’s not enough to just live, and bask in the glory that is human existence.
