Louis, originally uploaded by Mary-Alice.
What I love about this, is that the image is tranquil. Louis is an effervescent person, bubbling over with a giddy excitement at times, he is someone who sees the joy in life and does something with it.
I love a shallow depth of field because I feel like it is a representation of human vision, the smaller the focus then the more accurate (I feel) it is to a scene and the exact moment that the shutter was pressed.
The human eye has an incredibly small point of focus, off hand I can't remember the exact figure but it is tiny (you can see this for your self by keeping your eye still and trying to take in the whole scene before you) and to cope with this small point of focus, when we view and experience situations, our eye scopes out what is relevant and groups the information to create a representation of the image before us in the mind.
I feel that the small point of focus in this image presents that minute and exact moment, where the eye is still, where the basic structure of human optics are apparent and the image presents what has been seen.
